In today's digital age, it seems that everybody has a website, whether it's a website for their business, place of work, or even a website like a blog that you use to advertise your services, or even just comment on the news stories of the day. But with so many websites available, how do you become a.com success story? The answer is, well there are many ways that you can become successful online, because it depends on you, or website and your goals. The people that formed some of the most popular sites on the web, such as Amazon.com and eBay.com were prepared to put in a lot of work before they made their site live, during the site launch and even after the site launch. What a lot of people don't realise is that the work never stops with a website, especially if you want it to be found be potential users, customers, and even, investors. When it comes to really making your website work for you, you have to consider three things: research, advertising and engagement. Research is for planning a website, so if you're building a website from scratch you need to know who your competitors are, the market that you are going into and also what your competitors are lacking. However, if you have an existing website, then this can also be applied to it, because you can improve on the site just by following the right steps. The research stage will take some time, but don't lose heart, it will be worth it when you launch the site. One thing to bear in mind that a lot of people forget about when building and launching a site, is advertising. If you neglect to advertise, how will potential customers find your site? The answer is that they won't, so avoid this pitfall by looking into the cost of advertising while you are creating the site. When it comes to advertising, the level you choose will depend on your budget, and depending on your budget you could go to a big advertising company, or choose a smaller, SEO company, you will give you advice on how to better advertise your site, without having to spend big bucks on a huge advertising campaign. The term engagement can confuse a lot of people, but when it's used here, it simply means, engaging with, or better still, communicating with your customers and informing of them what's happening with your site. This could be as simple as sending a weekly e-newsletter, or maintaining a social media presence on sites like Twitter and Facebook, where you respond to customer queries and most importantly, feedback and complaints.
