SEO - Guaranteed Search Engine Optimization - Is it Possible?

You may have seen services offering guaranteed search engine optimization. They will advertise that they can get your site onto the first page of the search engines - and it's guaranteed! Sounds great, right? But is it really possible? Even guaranteed search engine optimization companies do not control Google, so how can they be sure that their techniques will work?

So here are some questions to ask before you hand over your hard earned cash for guaranteed search engine optimization.

1. Which search engines?

When most people think about them, they think of the big ones like Google, Yahoo and Bing. However, there are actually hundreds of thousands in existence.

A lot are specific to a particular country, language or industry. If you are realtor in Chicago, it's really not going to be very important to be highly ranked in a South African search engine.

So don't assume that your guaranteed search engine optimization company will get you to the top of the search results in Google if they just say "search engines". Ask them which which of those that they mean.

2. For how long?

While they do like sites that have been around for several years, most of the major search engines now also give weight to content that is very new. This makes sense because people are often searching for the latest news or information about a particular subject.

This means that a new blog post, for example, will often make it onto page 1 or 2 of Google very fast, with a little SEO work. But after just a few days it may start to drop down the rankings because it is not news any more.

Long term, there is not much value to your business in having a page 1 ranking that only lasts a couple of days. So it's worth asking how long the guaranteed SEO results will last.

3. For which keywords?

As you can imagine, it would not be too hard to throw up a web page that was optimized for the keyword "3 bedroom apartment in Chicago that allows dogs". It would not take much to get on page 1 of Google for that keyword phrase. On the other hand, you would not get many visitors searching for exactly that phrase. There's no point being on page 1 for a keyword that nobody is searching for.

So when you are looking at guaranteed optimization services, keep in mind that the aim here is to attract actual visitors to your site - real people who are in a position where they might turn into paying customers or clients.

This means that being on page 1 for a very long and specific keyword phrase might not be worth much. On the other hand, however, getting onto page 1 for the keyword "Chicago apartments" could be hugely profitable. If an SEO company can do that for you, you would probably be very happy to pay for their services.

SEO services do work. They can boost your rankings. In many cases, they will get you onto page one of a search engine - but it might not be Google, it might not last long and it might not be for the keywords that your clients would use to find you. So it is worth asking a few questions before signing up for guaranteed search engine optimization.
