GA - Contextual Adverts

Google AdSense is the most contextual advertising revenue you will get anywhere on the internet - period! So you might be thinking of is there anything better out there than Google AdSense? Well you can try other alternatives for sure, but let me explain the pitfalls that might await your end users....

On the face of it Google AdSense seems to be the dominating user/target focussed form of sub-advertising (By that I mean the adverts displayed on your website are solely contextually based on your websites content yet you are not getting advert revenue directly from the advertiser). So many times I see people complaining that their websites are showing irrelevant AdSense adverts, yet time and again their website content is far too diverse to make the AdSense adverts relevant to their websites content. Then again people rebel against Google and look for alternatives, but step into even worse problems.

Okay so there are seemingly several other contextual advertising programs to Google AdSense, but how many other contextual programs would you actually consider using? The ones I hate in particular are the ones that highlight keywords on a website you visit and then when your mouse icon hovers over them for more than half a second a pop up advert appears (why?) Sorry that does not do it for me.

Is it me or it is it bit like sound on videos automatically starting when you land on a website page? Do the people not realise that I might be at work, and that if I have Hemorrhoids and I am surfing the Internet at lunchtime that the last thing I want is to land on a website and have the whole office hearing that I have Hemorrhoids!

So it is the same with contextual advertising, it has to be 100% spot on, and that is where Google AdSense wins hands down over ever other competitor. The only other global player on the face of it would seem to be Yahoo's YPN network - but it is only open to those with USA based websites, and even if you are looking at a site with YPN on it from say Europe no adverts seem to show? Why is a such a Global superstar missing out on hundreds of millions of potential European 'clicks' - It has been nearly five years since the USA trials, yet know news of any YPN for Europe yet?
