The affiliates actually host the merchant's website. They put links, advertisement or simply rent the space of their website to the merchant. The visitor visits the website of the affiliates and sees the advertisement there. If they like the promotion and tempted to click on the link, they directly transferred to the merchant's page and the affiliate gets his reward by this. Therefore if you own a website and rent the free space to any merchant to put their links or advertisement there, you may also earn money while the visitors of your site click on the link.

There are some methods of payments by which the affiliates are rewarded. There are commonly three methods which are most popular. They are The Cost per Mile (CPM), The Cost per Click (CPC) and The Cost per Sale or Action (CPS / CPA).

The Cost per Mile (CPM) refers to the method when the affiliate is the host and simply earns money by renting the free space of his website.

The Cost per Click (CPC) is the method when the visitor of the affiliate's website clicks on the links provided by the affiliate at his website. This method is not much used now.

The Cost per Sales or Action (CPS / CPA) is the method which is mostly used now. This refers when the visitor not only visit or sees the advertisement provided by the affiliate at his website, but also purchases something from the range of products of the merchants. This has been widely used now as because this method gives a two way protection to both merchant and the affiliate. The affiliate gets assured of their payment while the actual sale happens and by this method they can claim the payment as they have made the sales. On the other side, the merchant pays to the affiliate only when the actual sales happens and gets assurance of the revenue which has been generated by this way.

One can find the right affiliate for him from either the web directories where the lists of affiliates are there according to the functional areas. Again the affiliates could be found out from the websites where the hyperlinks of any web page which gives the merchants the rules of the affiliation.

The good and genuine affiliate makes the business more running and profit making. The affiliates need to be chosen after reasonable research work on the credibility of them.
