AFF - Affiliate Marketers - 6 Must-Haves in Order to Be Successful

The one thing affiliate marketers strive for online is finding that market that will give them the biggest payday. Sometimes they believe that there's some "magic button" system that they just haven't found yet.

But the truth is, becoming an affiliate marketer is quite a bit more complicated than that. It is hard work, dedication, know-how and honest marketing practices that is what separates the small affiliate marketers from the super-affiliates.

So what are the things that an affiliate marketer needs to bring to the table in order to succeed?

A Website for Every Occasion

Sometimes, affiliate marketers try to promote multiple different products together all on one site in an effort to save a few dollars in domain name and web hosting costs. This makes it difficult for the search engines to understand what your site is all about. For example, what do you suppose a search engine thinks when they come across a website that talks about internet marketing, bird cages, chicken coops and MP3 music all on the same site?

It makes it a little difficult to try and figure out what the main point of the website is.

So always get a domain name specific to the products and the topic you're referring to.

Value-Filled Content

Your website shouldn't just contain products that you're promoting. It also needs content. But not just any content, content that is valuable to your reader. This will help to position yourself as an expert in your field and the site visitor won't feel like they're just coming to a site where all that someone cares about is selling something to them.

Product Reviews

When you do promote a product give the site visitor a reason why they should consider purchasing the product. What do other people have to say about the product? Testimonials from real people will go a long way in how someone perceives the product. As a site owner, you can give your own testimonial of course, but remember, your site visitor knows that you have a vested interest in that product and so they'll take that review with a grain of salt.

If the other user testimonials have photos or even videos talking about how they used the product and what they liked (and disliked) about it, all the better.

Free Reports

Give your site visitors something to take away with them before they leave your site. This can be a free e-book, a free report, a free video, something that will add value to your site and that will keep your name in front of them.

Use an auto-responder program so that they can sign up for this freebie that you're offering and then, once they do, be sure that you're following up with regular emails to them that again, contain valuable information. Put yourself in their shoes. How do you feel when you have signed up for someone's list and all that they do is promote product after product to you?

It doesn't make you feel very valued does it?

Get That Traffic!

The best website in the world means absolutely nothing if no one knows you exist. So work continuously on getting traffic to your website.

  • Write articles and submit them to article directories.
  • Create videos and distribute them on high-quality video directories.
  • Create a free e-book and give this away in free e-book directories.
  • Create a Twitter account and keep it updated.
  • Create a Facebook page and invite others to join in the conversation.
  • Find forums related to your topic and participate freely; giving more than taking.
Remember that the average conversion rate, or in other words, the average number of people who buy a product as opposed to the number of people who actually see the product is usually 1%.

This means that out of every 100 people only 1 of them is likely to buy.

So the goal then is to get as many people coming to your site and seeing your content and offers as you can.

And this takes work and perseverance. You can't simply just do one thing today and then expect hoards of people to show up at your site. You must relentlessly work on traffic-building techniques and ideas.

Monitor Your Site

The most successful affiliate marketers monitor their traffic. They know where it's coming from, what's doing well and what's not. And then they use this information to improve what's already working.

Without knowing how well something is doing, you're just shooting targets in the dark hoping that something sticks.

These strategies are not difficult once you get the hang of them, but they are time-consuming. So set up a schedule for yourself that you stick to every single day. This will help move you forward considerably when it comes to becoming a successful affiliate marketer.
