| Sunday, 24 April 2011 13:00 | When you are setting up an online advertising campaign, there is a bit of trial and error incorporated at the beginning. A lot of time goes into maximizing your campaign and understanding your strengths and weaknesses. Particularly if you are maintaining it on your own, it can be a very tiresome experience. If you are attempting to run your company, figuring out what works and what doesn't can be monotonous and time-consuming, and that is most likely time you do not have at your disposal. Unless you understand what to watch out for, some variables come into effect that you will probably overlook altogether, while some others are simpler to discover; there are multiple things to be mindful of. Obviously, you will select the keywords you want to use in the campaign, and manage those words corresponding to their performance, but there is so much more that goes into a good PPC campaign. You can bring on an SEO company to manage your campaign for you to save time and as a result, likely save money right away in the process or you can do it yourself and spend the time and effort investigating all of the tools of the trade. Surely improving your conversion rate, the aesthetics of your site is crucial, and landing page design is a primary factor in ushering people through your page. Another key factor in managing your campaign successfully is by managing your click through rate. Be certain that the correct individuals are coming to your website, and are actually converting into new sales is the name of the game. Without an understanding of the industry, there are also some more surprising variables that come into play as well, things that you might not even consider. For instance, you might only prefer to run your campaign a few days out of the week if you are maintaining a tighter budget. If your business is aimed toward other businesses, then you might want for your campaign to be active Monday through Friday, during regular business hours and then turn it off during evenings and weekends. Or, you might only want to have it on over the weekends and occasional evenings during the week if your business is one of a more recreational niche. When administering a PPC campaign, these are just a few of the various methods that go into play and can really make an impact when it comes to your spend and the return you hope to make from your advertising dollars. If this has raised a few concerns about the performance of your own campaign, or if you are administering a PPC campaign, and have not thought about some of these variables, you might want to contact SEO professionals and maximize your campaign to secure the maximum return for your investment. | Thursday, 21 April 2011 19:02 | Have you heard about 'Facebook Questions? It is a new product which allows users to ask a question and if their friends answer it, friends of their friends can too. So for instance a user might ask 'What's the best restaurant in Auckland City?' and that user's wider Facebook community can respond. All of you with a Facebook account will have asked a question or two from your Facebook friends at some point in time while using this Social Media medium. Facebook saw this as an opportunity to make a common user interaction more useful in order for their users to get answers more easily and faster than before. Facebook questions aren't automatically added to your Facebook account at present, but you can sign up to use this product. Clicking on a question gives you an 'Ask something...' field and allows you to add Poll Options if you want to. The 'Poll Options' field gives ideas from a dropdown of other Facebook pages and such like related to what you are typing. Using this poll feature means that users who reply to your question can 'vote' on which is the best option, but if they so desire they can still add their own option. Who can see these questions? Well, according to Facebook these questions are made public to anyone on the internet, however they generally show your friends responses to you first and you can click on a filter to see the answers from the general public. It is also possible to 'tag' your question with a relevant topic e.g. horse riding, motorsports so that a) the relevant users can answer your question and b) others can benefit from your question and the responses given. If you are a business owner with a Facebook page, you may be wondering what this new product means for you. While it does not appear to be a feature of business pages at present, business pages can still be included in users 'Poll Options' - so bear in mind that people are now able to compare your business on Facebook, more easily than before. If you have a Facebook page for your business, you need to ensure that you keep it updated and keep your Social Media presence going - in case your businesses Facebook page is included in someone's poll. First impressions count, and no one likes to see a Facebook page that hasn't been posted on recently, it's like walking into a shop with no shop assistant there to help you. Social Media Marketing is more and more about word-of-mouth than ever before. In previous days, it was simply a matter of creating a website, implementing some Search Engine Marketing on it and then waiting to rank in the Search Results. These days you have to think outside of the square and be willing to put some time and effort into Social Media. Consider the valuable market research that can be gleamed from a tool like Facebook Questions, and the positive effects such findings could in turn have for your business. Source: Ezine | | Wednesday, 20 April 2011 13:00 | "Why isn't my site being listed on Google's local business listings?" It's a question being asked more and more frequently-especially as Google is expanding the prevalence of local search results. Google Place listings typically show up when someone searches for something locally, such as video production in Cedar Rapids. Being listed in the magical top 7 local Google Place listings can produce excellent traffic to your website, but now the question is: How can that be done? Unfortunately, it isn't necessarily a quick fix to rise to the top, but here is a best practice "to-do" list to get optimal results out of your Google Place listing.
- Claim Your Google Place Listing. This one seems obvious enough, but you would be surprised at how many business listings go unclaimed by local business owners. To claim your business, go to the Google Local Business Center and claim the listing that Google already generated, or create a Google Place listing.
- List Your Business Phone and Address on Your Website. The key is to make your website as easy as possible for Google search engines to crawl the information on your site, and the physical location of your business is an extremely important ranking factor for Google Place listings. We encourage our clients to include the business address on the footer of each page of their website, as well as to include it on the "Contact Us" page.
- Add Your Location to Your Website's Title Tags. The title tag of a web page appears in the top left corner of your web browser window next to the Internet Explorer or Firefox icon. The title tag is defined in the HTML code, and this little page title is extremely important for organic search and for local search. If your goal is to rank high locally, be sure your site's title tags list the city your company is located in or serves.
- Get Reviewed. Another increasingly important ranking factor is the number of customer reviews. Definitely do not fake reviews. You will likely get caught, and the punishment is not worth the risk. Instead, encourage your customers to post reviews of your business to popular review sites such as Yelp.com, CitySearch.com, InsiderPages.com, and SuperPages.com. How can you encourage your customers to write reviews? Include a call for action in your emails to customers, on your website, on receipts (if applicable) and on your social media pages. This might sound a bit tedious, but if you want to achieve high local rankings, it is worth it.
- Add Photos & Video. You want your Google Place listing to be as complete as possible. Part of that is adding photos and video that help demonstrate what your company is about. The general rule of thumb is, the more photos the better, but make sure whatever you include on your page is of high quality. You have the ability to add 10 photos and 5 videos, and I encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity.
- Register with the Major Local Data Providers. Search engines rely quite a bit on local data providers such as InfoUSA, Superpages.com, Yelp, just to name a few. Metro Studios can provide you a list of great sites to submit your business to. This will aide you on your quest for improved local search ranks.
Hopefully these tips can help your Google Place listing be much more visible, generating additional traffic, and ultimately leading to more business. If you have additional questions, or would like to discuss this further-don't hesitate to contact Chad Gookin at Metro Studios. Search engines such as Google and others look for information on a website and if it is there they will rank the site at a higher level. When a website is posted live to the internet the only people who know it is there are the webmaster and the company. The site simply has to be promoted. SEO is an excellent tool that helps create blog posts and articles, social book-marking and getting indexed by search engines. Faster results and getting noticed will be the reward. Added benefits include:
creating internet marketing web pages
making one an expert
knowledge in what one wants an outsourcer to do
competitiveness
keeping a virtual lookout on the network How does one go about learning SEO? Initially just getting started, learning it and doing it is a good course of action. Equally, there is nothing to stop the newcomer to SEO marketing to start a site and be able to figure out what works by trial and error. Continuing along the learning process, it is a great idea to start reading information on SEO like blogs and books, watching SEO tutorials on video sites, keeping an eye on the SEO experts on Twitter and being sure to attend conferences. Online courses are available everywhere and are often free of charge. Cell phones are a surprisingly growing import vehicle of possibilities in marketing. The potential customers and readers for business sites is increasing every day because people all over the world are now able to log onto the internet on a variety of wireless technology devices including cell phones and tablets. A business is now able to reach their customers and followers from just about anywhere in the world at any time of day or night. Going mobile with marketing is much better that the old way of placing ads in newspapers and other print media where the only people that see it are the people who have purchased the paper or magazine. If the company has a well optimized website, the potential of customers from all over the world finding what they are looking for on that site is far greater and the potential for success is simply huge. So many businesses are having their websites professionally optimized to increase their chances of being found online. Unfortunately some companies are forgetting the search engine optimization that is needed in order to fill in the gaps and help more customers find their newly optimized website online. Never forget the SEO portion of optimization! You competitors sure haven't and if you do not take advantage of SEO, you may be left behind in your niche which can have disastrous results when your competition leaves your website in their website's shadow and traffic. When a website continues its optimization strategy and is successful at being found by its customers on a regular basis, the leads and sales potential has ultimately been opened up for unlimited possibilities. Leads and sales opportunities should be collected on a regular basis with some sort of opt-in email address collection process. Once the SEO and traffic generation are combined this strategy will work, and work very well. A targeted list of leads and potential sales that people have chosen to participate in can be built for use in continued marketing efforts. Since 1995 when the internet started becoming a household word businesses and private individuals have come to realize the advantages it represents for internet marketing. Those who have not seen the light almost twenty years later will be at a great economic disadvantage if they left this opportunity for exposing one's business on a global scale to pass by. Source: Ezine | | Wednesday, 06 April 2011 19:00 | SEO stands for 'search engine optimisation' and is based on getting a website more visible on the search engines. With increased visibility comes more visitors - which is the general goal. Lifting a websites visitors from 100 a month to 10,000 a month is what every company wants. The main search engine is Google, so most SEO work is done around Google's rules and guidelines. Bing is starting to make more of a presence on the internet, however the market is still dominated by Google. There are two types of SEO: Black Hat SEO Black hat techniques are used to trick search engine to sending your site to the top of the search results. Normally what will happen is that the SEO company will use these to get you to the top - however your website will be penalised by the search engines resulting in you being black listed. The SEO company then has your money and gets another customer to do the same technique. White Hat SEO White hat techniques are used by the majority of search engine optimisation companies around the UK and they work according to the 'rules' or guidelines set out by the main search engines that police the web. Being selective on the SEO company you choose is wise - as there are many that will use questionable techniques to get you the results that you are looking for - take your money and then run. What is involved with SEO? SEO is about a number of things, not just one thing there are a few 'elements' that come into the SEO campaign, based around two things: Onsite SEO - this is work that is done on your own website. Onsite SEO is about getting your website 'search engine friendly' having the right spread of keywords and lots of information. Search 'spiders' and people read websites differently - getting the balance right is important so that search engines like you and people like the look of your website. Offsite SEO- this is work that is done off of your website. Offsite SEOis probably more important as it is bringing links and information pointing at you. This could be from information forums, social media sites, news sites (like the BBC) etc. There is roughly a 60/40 split on the amount of work that is done - but there does need to be a balance. Some of the things that are needed with SEO work are: Keyword research Keywords are the words/phrases that you want to be found for. You need to have a good idea as to what words you want to target (anything from 5-10 keywords are good) to get your website found for. Looking at competitors This is a key tactic when it comes to SEO - by seeing what your competition are doing gives you a plan on what you need to do. What sort of websites they have, what sort of information and articles they have, what sort of links are pointing at them. Link Building SEO is mainly about a popularity contest. The more websites that are pointing at you, the more popular you appear (in the search engines eyes) and the higher you will appear. Articles Using informative articles both on your own website and on 'article websites' with links to your own site will give substance and information about your company, services etc. Search engines see this and like it. If you add articles to your site - this is counted as content (see below) and they really can help your sites visibility. Content A good website is a website that has lots of content. The more content the better. Sites like Wikipedia are popular as they are full of content. Search spiders like content so the more information you have on your website the more visible you will be (of course with the right amount of keywords). Many say that 'content is king' - the more content your website has the more people will visit it Keep the content fresh, but do not change it too often. Adding new content once every couple of months is fine. Once a year is nowhere near enough and once a week is too much. Blog As long as you are regularly updating your companies blog with relevant information - search engines will keep coming back to them. Updating a blog daily is great if you can do it, weekly also if fine but at the very least once a month. The more blogs are updated, the more the search engine 'spiders' will come back and sniff around. Tying your blog into the content on your website is a great way of advertising you inner pages to the search engines in a non spammy way. Social Media Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter are becoming more and more popular, and now that search engines are reading them is great for the SEO element. Finding a good SEO company Most of the above you or anyone can do themselves, with a little patience and hard work you can boost your companies visitor numbers. The advantage of outsourcing this to an SEO company, is that it takes the pressure off you (as it is time consuming) and they can probably do the work quicker (as they do it every day for other companies) than it would take you to do it yourself.
