HTML 5 was considered a myth in the past. Today, however, the unveiling of a new web standard is fast approaching which triggered a huge uproar in the market both in web ethics as well as in a few popular Internet Marketing techniques.

HTML 5 and SEO: New Tags For SEO

According to a number of specialists, the difference between HTML 4 and 5 are very minimal, in which HTML 5 only aims to improve some bugs and errors found in HTML 4.01. It has also been reported to include a flexible error handler.

However, HTML 5 has been reported to introduce a number of new HTML tags which can serve very useful in today's modern SEO trends. Some of these new HTML tags include:

Article Tag
According to those privileged to see the new changes in HTML 5, the Article tag is said to help boost a website's success rate in search engine through On Page SEO.

How will it work?
The Article tag is said to work by separating one segment of a page from another, such as its article or text content. This also allows for a cleaner coding in the search engine's eyes compared with the use of "div" tags. Many SEO experts also expect that search engines would put more weight on the content within the Article tag.

Section Tag
Section tags are mostly used within an Article tag. This is used to separate one article or content from the whole, similar to books which are divided into chapters.

How will it work?
According to many SEO experts, its use is simply to separate one section of the article or content from the other, making it easier for search engine spiders to index this section for a specific information compared to looking for separate information from separate sections and pages.

Another advantage is that each Section tags can have its own or separate HTML headings. And similar to Article tags, many SEO experts expect that search engines would put more priority or weight on Section tags compared to those without it.

Header Tag
The use of header tags was a miracle from heaven according to many SEO experts. In HTML 5, however, header tags have been upgrade, which is a treat for many SEO enthusiasts.

How will it work?
The new Header tag is pretty much similar to H1 tags, but other than just H1, H2, or H3, these new Header tags may also include the paragraph of the text and even hard-coded links which is a real treat to many SEO experts.

Footer Tag
Though not as effective compared to the Header tag, the Footer tag can be used to store a few information which can also be used for SEO.

How will it work?
Because of the Section tag, Footer tags and Header tags can be used in multiple sections found in one web page.

Nav Tag
Although nothing major will change with the tag, this new tag can be used to explicitly identify a collection of navigation links for other pages.

Disadvantage of HTML 5 in SEO
One disadvantage of HTML 5 in SEO is that it removed the use of Alt Tags (alt = ""). In HTML 4, Alt Tags were heavily used by SEO experts. This, however, was removed in HTML 5, which may be due to its abuse in Black Hat SEO.

Effectiveness of page segmentation with SEO
If you'll notice, these new tags are used to segment a page from different elements, from headers, footers, content/article, and navigation.

According to many speculations, search engines have become smarter compared in the past. Many experts believe that search engines have been employing page segmentation in indexing a page, meaning search engines have now the technology to separate one element from other elements found in the same page, such as headers and article. And each of these elements are treated as separate entries.

Although there are no technology at present which can manipulate search engine spiders to only index a particular section or segment, the solution is expected to come in HTML 5.
