Analyzing a niche can be overwhelming when first starting out in your affiliate marketing journey. I like to use free tools, instead of free tools to get the job done. Without proper niche research before marketing an affiliate product, will put you on the road to doom. A salesman never goes to a sales call without knowing a little bit about the product that he is selling, if he does I can guarantee the salesman won't be employed very long.

The best two tools I have found that get the job done are Google AdWords Keyword Tool and Yahoo Site Explorer. Lets take a look at these two tools and the features that can help you analyze the niche for your product.

Google AdWords Keyword Tool allows the user to input a list of keywords and get a list of similar keyword ideas in return. This tool will also give you the estimated search volume of the suggested keyword and a brief scope of competition. These features are all we need to analyze our affiliate products niches. You can expand on this keyword tool by checking the backlinks, page rank, and domain age of the websites listed in Google's search results.

Yahoo Site Explorer will allow you to explore any URL and give you the backlinks and how many pages the site contains. This can be done with Google, but I find it better to optimize your website for Yahoo and Google Search Engines. You can expand and check the page rank, backlinks, and domain age of the sites competition.

The trick is to find a niche that isn't completely saturated with authority sites and still receives a decent amount of traffic. Use these free tools in your marketing efforts to help prepare for your next affiliate marketing campaign.
