Organic search results are usually called un-paid results. But this is only in theory. In reality, most website owners pay for SEO services to get their webpages to the top of the SERPs. Sure, it is POSSIBLE to get to the top of the results pages without having to hire an SEO company or specialist. You only have to devote time to learn and implement search engine optimization principles to improve your pages' rankings. However, the question is, "What is the PROBABILITY of your page actually reaching the top if you do it all on your own?" With website owners hiring specialists who operate with an army of backlinkers, web content & article writers, and SEO-knowledgeable web developers, it would be difficult to reach the top if their webpages compete with yours. The sheer number of backlinks, articles, and posts that they can launch in a day can easily overwhelm whatever you can churn out in a week. Try Googling up a popular keyword now. Chances are, each link you find on the first SERP point to sites that have very high page ranks. This could only mean that a considerable number of websites are linking back to them. Backlinking alone, which is the process of planting anchor texts that link back to your pages (hence the term 'backlink'), is clearly a numbers game. He who is able to install backlinks on the most number of relevant sites, forums, comment areas, and article directories, wins the linking game. You might argue that the quality of each backlink also counts. Well, surely you don't believe you're the only person who knows how to post a quality backlink, do you? Website owners recognize this reality, and that is why many of them are willing to pay for top quality SEO services. So, the concept of organic search results being free is clearly an old one. If you want people to reach your site via the search engines it no longer matters whether you do it via organic or inorganic methods - you'll need to pay either way.
