If you run a website, you have likely looked into ways to earn revenue from that site. Google's AdSense program is one way you can do that. First, let's talk about what AdSense is; and before we know what AdSense is, we need to know what Google's AdWords program is all about. You've likely done a search in Google and may have noticed advertisements running down the right hand side of the page. This is what's called Google's AdWords program. It's where individuals and business alike can go to advertise their business within Google whenever someone searches on a specific term they have told Google that they want their ad to show up for. AdSense, on the other hand, are these same ads only instead of showing up on a search results page, they appear on your own website. Whenever someone clicks on one of the ads from your site, you earn a portion of money from Google. It's important to note that before you apply to the AdSense program, that you already have a website up and running. Google will check your website first to be sure that it complies with their terms and conditions and that it's an active website. That is, you're not currently in the process of building your site. Once your site is approved, which can take weeks at times, you can then go straight into your AdSense account and grab some special code that will allow you to display these ads on your own website. Google will give you some options when it comes to ad size, text color, fonts and so on. You can make adjustments to the ads to your liking and when you're finished adjusting your ads, you'll then receive some HTML code that you can then place on your site. Take this code, find a spot on your site where you want the ads to display to your site visitors and then paste it into your website. It's important to note that you'll need to go into the actual code portion of your site so if you're unfamiliar with HTML code, you may want to have a friend help you or find some tutorials online which will teach you how to do this easily. Also, when you first add this code to your site, you may see a series of advertisements that don't appear to be related to the content on the web page where you've added your code. It usually takes a while for this to update, but once it does, Google will display ads on your web page directly related to the contents of that page. Since each web page on your site is different, the ads that get displayed will also be different. How much will I earn? Each time someone clicks on one of the ads on your web page, you'll earn a few cents. Although it doesn't sound like much, the more website traffic you have, the more these ads will get displayed, and the more money you'll make. It all comes down to how many people are visiting your site. When do you get paid? When you set up your account, Google will walk you through the process of setting up your payments from them. As of this writing, you will be paid out when your payment threshold reaches $100. If there's anything to know about the AdSense program, it's this: whatever you do, never, ever click on your own ads. This can get you banned from the AdSense program all-together. So if you already have a website up and running, why not apply for the AdSense program and start to earn yourself a little bit of extra cash?
